Hon. Dr. Hakima El Haité is internationally recognized as one of Africa's most distinguished political leaders, climate diplomats, environmental scientists, and advocates for sustainable economic transformation. With two doctoral degrees in environmental sciences and environmental engineering, complemented by advanced studies in political communication, Dr. El Haité has built a career that bridges scientific expertise with strategic policymaking. Before entering government, she founded EauGlobe, the first environmental engineering consultancy established in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), pioneering environmental technologies and sustainable infrastructure solutions throughout the region.

Her appointment as Minister of Environment of the Kingdom of Morocco (2013–2017) marked a transformative period for Morocco's environmental governance. During her ministerial tenure, she led major reforms that strengthened Morocco's sustainable development framework, integrated environmental protection into national public policy, advanced green growth strategies, modernized waste management systems, and reinforced the country's international leadership in climate diplomacy. Under her stewardship, Morocco consolidated its reputation as one of Africa's leading advocates for sustainable development and ecological resilience.

Dr. El Haité's influence expanded significantly onto the global stage through her leadership within the United Nations climate architecture. Following her appointment as Vice-President of COP21, which culminated in the historic Paris Agreement, she was appointed Special Envoy for Climate Change of the Kingdom of Morocco and subsequently designated United Nations High-Level Climate Champion for COP22, serving as one of the principal international figures responsible for mobilizing governments, multilateral institutions, financial organizations, businesses, and civil society to accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement. In this capacity, she worked closely with governments, development banks, global corporations, and international organizations to translate climate commitments into practical investment, innovation, and sustainable economic action.

Her multilateral leadership extends well beyond climate negotiations. In 2023, António Guterres appointed Dr. El Haité to the United Nations Secretary-General's Advisory Board of Eminent Persons on Zero Waste, where she contributes to shaping global policy on circular economy, sustainable resource management, and environmental governance. She has likewise served as Advisor to African heads of state and international institutions on climate transition, green industrialization, and sustainable Hon. Dr. Hakima El Haité development strategies, reinforcing Africa's voice within global environmental governance.

Throughout her distinguished international career, Dr. El Haité has collaborated with numerous influential multilateral organizations and financial institutions, including the United Nations, the UNFCCC, World Bank, UN-Habitat, and a wide spectrum of governmental, private-sector, and civil society partners committed to sustainable development, climate resilience, environmental innovation, and inclusive economic growth. Her policy expertise has contributed to international initiatives on green finance, climate adaptation, circular economy, sustainable urban development, and environmental diplomacy.

As President of the Africa Pact for Climate Transition, Dr. Hakima is committed to championing African Grand Agenda for Humanity, shaping its strategic role in the global green economy, advocating for climate investment, sustainable industrialization, energy transition, and stronger cooperation between Africa and the world. Together with H.E. Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim and H.E. Dr. Rosalia Arteaga, they share a common vision, consistently emphasizing that environmental sustainability and socio-economic progress must advance together as mutually reinforcing pillars of long-term prosperity.

She also serves as President of the World Association for Culture and Heritage (WACH), an international organization dedicated to safeguarding cultural identity and promoting heritage as a pillar of sustainable development. Under her leadership, WACH has advanced inclusive dialogue, practitioner-driven initiatives, and global advocacy linking culture, climate resilience, and human dignity.

In addition, Dr. El Haite is a Board Member of the World Climate Foundation (WCF) and a Member of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, further reinforcing her role in shaping global climate governance and intercultural dialogue.

Her commitment and international impact have been recognized through numerous honors: she is a Chevalier of the Légion d’Honneur of France, recipient of the Medal of Merit from the Prince Albert Foundation, the Medal of Merit from Parlacene, and the Medal of Freedom from Liberal Women.
