H.E. Meir Sheetrit is an Israeli senior political figure, former Finance Minister, and veteran statesman who held several of the highest cabinet portfolios in the Government of Israel throughout a public service career spanning several decades.

Before emerging as a prominent and influential candidate in Israel's 2014 Presidential Election, H.E. Sheetrit successively served in a number of senior ministerial positions, including Minister of Finance, Minister of Interior, Minister of Housing and Construction, Minister of Justice, Minister of Transportation, and Minister of Education, Culture and Sport. Throughout his extensive governmental service, he contributed to the formulation and implementation of national policies, public administration reforms, infrastructure development, fiscal governance, and economic modernization.

As an experienced parliamentarian and diplomat, H.E. Sheetrit represented Israel in major international parliamentary and diplomatic forums, including the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and served as an official representative of Israel at the United Nations meetings. He advocated and supported diplomatic initiatives and efforts aimed at advancing peace negotiations between Israel and Palestinian People, including the Oslo Peace Process.
